Proposal for departmental approval

    Research starts with
    finding each other.

OriginZero is a departmental portal where AMCS students and faculty publish research ideas, and where collaborators are chosen on evidence rather than acquaintance.

Built and running Open to PD · PW · PT · PC

    01 — The problem

    Good projects stall
    before they begin.

    01

    Faculty cannot find students

A supervisor with an idea has no way to reach the students capable of it. Word of mouth reaches whoever sits nearest.

    02

    Students cannot find work

Capable students go unnoticed because nobody has a record of what they can do. The same few names are asked every time.

    03

    Selection is impressionistic

Choices rest on familiarity and a CGPA. There is no evidence of how someone thinks about the actual problem.

    02 — How it works

    Five steps,
    one sitting.

Sign-in is gated on the server to @psgtech.ac.in addresses with a PD, PW, PT or PC roll number.

    1. 1

      Build a profile

Upload a resume and it fills itself in. Skills, projects, publications.

    2. 2

      Your skills — 15 questions

Drawn from the skills on that profile, five each at easy, medium and hard.

    3. 3

      General skills — 15 questions

The same paper for everyone: core computing, mathematics and research method.

    4. 4

      Choose a research idea

Browse open proposals from faculty and students. Up to five at a time.

    5. 5

      Answer in your own words

Five questions on the proposal, then three written answers.

    03 — Fairness

    Judged on the work,
    not the name.

    What a supervisor sees

    • Name and department
    • The three written answers, in full
    • A score for each round, and a combined rank

    What is deliberately hidden

    • Photograph, roll number, CGPA
    • The candidate's email address, at every stage
    • Who published the idea, until a shortlist is made

Contact details are exchanged only when a supervisor shortlists someone — and that decision is final, so it is made deliberately.

    04 — For faculty

    Publish an idea.
    Read the answers.

    01

    Upload what you already wrote

Drop an existing proposal document and the listing fills itself in — question, method, intended contribution, and the skills a collaborator needs.

    02

    Applicants arrive ranked

Strongest first, with every written answer attached. No inbox, no forwarded PDFs, no chasing.

    03

    Shortlist and begin

One click shares your address with the student you chose. Nothing is shared with anyone else.

    05 — Where it stands

    Not a proposal.
    It is already running.

1496 questions in the offline bank
67 skill and research topics covered
    3 assessment rounds per application
    Live deployed and reachable today

The assessment runs from a pre-built bank, so a test never waits on anything external. The bank grows on its own as new skills appear on student profiles.

    What we are asking

    Approval to open it
    to the department.

    01

Permission to enrol AMCS students for the coming semester

    02

Faculty accounts, so supervisors can publish their own research

    03

A first set of departmental projects to open the portal with

Ready for a live walkthrough whenever it suits you.
